The alpaca is gentle by nature and is native to the high plains of the Andes. To cope with the extremes of temperature alpaca have developed hair with hollow fibre rendering the fleece uniquely light and incredibly warm. The fleece naturally occurs in at least 22 shades ranging from black, charcoal, silver, chocolate, fudge, taupe and ivory. Unlike many products now manufactured in China Samantha Holmes collections are beautifully and skilfully handcrafted by small producer groups, mainly in the poorer rural communities of the Peruvian Andes, where alpaca has been spun and woven for hundreds of years.
